I’ve been practising Iyengar yoga for 24 years, and have completed over 10 years of intensive teacher training.
I was introduced to Iyengar yoga at the age of 22 by my mum when I was clinically depressed. At that time I was signed off from my job in the fitness industry, where I worked as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. I was teaching 22 cardiovascular classes every week, which, over time, resulted in a knee and shoulder injury. I was told I would need surgery.
From the very first Iyengar yoga class I attended I was hooked, and after attending twice weekly classes for a while, I noticed my depression lifting and my injuries improving. I also knew that I had found my new vocation, and I promptly quit all of my fitness classes so that I could retrain to become an Iyengar yoga teacher. Most of the people I taught fitness to, also gave up their fitness club memberships to join me on my new path, and I am happy to say that many of them are still with me today, over 20 years later.
I credit Iyengar yoga for giving me the tools to manage and overcome my physical injuries and mental struggles, and as a result of this, am extremely passionate about the therapeutic benefits of the Iyengar method. I love sharing my knowledge and helping my students with their own physical and mental limitations.
After qualifying as an introductory teacher, I then went on to complete another 7 years of intermediate teacher training, and am now a level 3 teacher. I also completed a two-year therapeutic course with Stephanie Quirk, a teacher who worked directly with the Iyengar family in India.
I am honoured to have been taught and trained by three of the best teachers in the country, who have inspired and supported me in my life and my teaching.
My professional development and training are ongoing- I attend weekly classes, specialised training and workshops with my teachers and continue studying yoga therapeutics, my passion.
When I’m not practising or teaching Iyengar yoga, I spend time in the countryside riding my beloved Spanish horse, Pozita, with my crazy sprocker spaniel Cookie, in tow.
